Why libraries are good for children

Hey readers,

I love the library as there are so many different types of books for anyone regardless of age or income to borrow and read. Reading is such a relaxing activity and something I want to encourage my children to enjoy. In this post I am going to focus on why libraries are good for children, you can read my thoughts down below.

Why libraries are good for children

Firstly, if you make it a fun day out for your child, such as getting on a bus, grabbing a drink, and checking out the books that are available at your local library. This can be a positive influence on the way that child views reading and furthermore can create excitement and a sense of adventure.

The library is such a brilliant place as it is open to everyone no matter what your background. At the library, there is so much choice and a diverse range of books to take out for free so you don't have to worry about how much it is going to cost to buy books.

Going to the library can give your child a sense of independence in choosing the books that they like the look of.  This can also help your child to get the motivation to want to read something that they are interested in...

With getting your children to join up with the library, they have their own library card, meaning that they have their own responsibility.  It teaches the child to look after books and also makes sure that the books get back on time or they will quickly learn that if you do not follow rules there will be consequences. Personally, I feel this is such a valuable lesson to learn for the child to learn in life that with choice.

Giving the child the opportunity in accessing the library services allows that child to learn, understand and helps enhance imagination.  It can help with their education, learning and allow the child to explore. It can also give the child confidence in themselves as they learn more and more information.

Do you like to take your children to the library? What do you think about kids going to libraries? Love to hear your thoughts down below.

Cheers for reading X

  1. My boys are both big readers and used to love going to the library when they were younger (now they read on their Kindles). It was a fun and educational activity.

  5. Prior to COVID our libraries had amazing programs for children that explored arts, music, literacy, science, and play. The books are an amazing resource but when they are open and flourishing they offer so much more for families.

  6. I used to be a librarian, both in our local public library and in a university library. When I worked in the public library I ran the homework club for children and story time. I loved it! My children have always been great fans of libraries right up until the last couple of years. We would go along and sit around for ages while they picked the books they wanted.
